Dr. Stephen Arndt is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in complex conditions of the foot and ankle both surgically and non-surgically. He focuses on an array of issues and has a special interest in total ankle replacements, ankle arthroscopies, ankle and hind foot reconstruction, various forefoot procedures and complex wound care management. Dr. Arndt has participated in many research studies and published multiple corresponding articles.
Dr. Arndt received his undergraduate degree in Physics with a minor in Chemistry and Mathematics from Wake Forest University, where he was awarded Magna Cum Laude for his studies.
As a current member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Florida Orthopaedic Society, Northeast Florida Orthopaedic Society and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Dr. Arndt is well-versed in the needs of his foot and ankle patients. He strives to not only provide 5-star orthopedic care, but to also understand his patient and the corresponding impact their orthopedic injury can have on their life.

All of the staff were very nice and helpful. I was seen by Dr. Arndt for pain and popping in my ankle after spraining my foot/ankle four months ago. X-rays revealed a bone chip in my ankle. After Dr. Arndt examined my ankle, he ordered an MRI to determine if a tendon or ligament were torn. He also ordered an ankle brace for support. From the time I entered waiting room, to the x-ray techs and being taken to an examination room, seeing the doctor was the shortest time I have ever spent to see a new doctor. He came In introduced himself and examined my ankle reinsured me it was not broken and the possible reason for the pain and discomfort. He then told me his plan to get me back on both feet and when to return to follow up. All the techs that fitted the walking cast and scheduling follow up with office staff was easy and fast. Appt was for plantar fasciitis pain. Staff was very professional, from registration to Dawn in x-ray to Jennifer in patient care room to Dr Arndt to the person who fit me with a brace. I definitely felt that I was cared for by a professional and knowledgeable surgeon. Dr. Arndt knew exactly what to look for and found the source of discomfort and swelling immediately. I like that the care is conservative, trying therapy and anti-inflammatory medications first, then MRI and possibly a cortisone injection, rather than immediately talking about surgical options. Dr. Andt is an outstanding doctor. His office is run like a fine tuned machine. From check in, X-rays, waiting time, seeing the doctor and check out it was less than an hour. I was originally seen last year for a bad ankle sprain and torn ligaments and tendons. We tried bracing and Pt, but it just wasn't getting better. Dr. Arndt said he could perform surgery to repair my torn tendons/ligaments, but he leaving the decision up to me. He did give me an injection in my ankle, which helped for a few months. I decided this year to go ahead with the surgery after tolerating moderate pain for almost a year. The surgery was quick, the recovery has been relatively easy for me and the team has been great at answering any questions or concerns I have. Dr. Arndt was ultra-responsive to my need for surgery to correct my extreme bunion condition which has increasingly caused me greater pain & gotten to an extreme of risking other severe health issues. He was outraged when my insurance initially denied my surgery & is now aggressively pursuing my insurance company with all justifications for surgery. I have been seen & treated at Southeast Ortho for MANY years for numerous body ailments (needing total knee replacement, both left & right (Duffy & Deshmukh), shoulder surgery (Deshmukh), hand surgery for a dislocated pinky finger (Goll), & a broken fore-arm (Puckett), & bursitis in my hip (Redmond). Their team of physical therapists are phenomenal as well. Prior to going to SE Ortho, i'd gone to JOI, but i can't be happier to have ALL my physical ailments handled by SE Ortho. Had a very good first time appointment, the entire staff was empathetic and helpful to my physical condition. Took me for x-rays even before my scheduled appointment, helped me to an exam room where DrArndt came in just a couple minutes later. He explained what he saw on the x-rays, ordered a CT scan and o smaller boot and said he’d see me in 2 weeks. My longest wait was to get the smaller boot but the tech fitted me. I asked if my orders said no weight or could I put weight on my foot. She checked the chart, couldn’t find anything about putting weight on so she went and asked the Dr and came back saying it was weight bearing. Took just a few minutes to schedule my next appointment. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Arndt to my family and friends! I came into the office after a bad ankle injury only to learn that I had a medial malleolus fracture. (I knew it wasn’t a sprain ugh) The bone was split straight off! He was able to fit me into the surgical schedule the next day for an ORIF. Needless to say I was scared since I’ve never had a screw put in my bone before, but Dt. Seriously the best Dr I’ve ever had. I came to him with a terrible Pilot fracture that another doctor had fixed incorrectly. Dr Arndt was extremely forward with me from the start and not only was he able to remove the broken hardware in my leg left from my previous surgeon, he was able to straighten it back out and fix my leg. Dr. Arndt and his PA, Keri, are wonderful. I work in healthcare and chose Dr. Arndt based on his training and degree of specialization and made a great choice with him. I have 4 fractures, a chipped bone and a lisfranc dislocation. Dr Armdt placed three plates and 12 screws in my foot. Three weeks post surgery, I have no pain and will start PT soon. As usual, Dr. Arndt is friendly, informative and encouraging. He has given me excellent results from surgery on my right ankle. When consulted about repairing the left foot and ankle, he recommended that I continue to wear the Richie brace and not consider surgery. It seems that it would be a complicated procedure and not necessarily successful. I hold him in high regard and will continue to follow his advice.
