Dr. Jorge Acevedo is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques, as well as clinical and surgical skin grafting for complex wound care treatment. After completing his Biomedical Engineering degree from Tulane University, he received his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. He then completed his orthopedic residency at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center. Following his residency, he completed a subspecialty fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Union Memorial Hospital under the instruction of Johns Hopkins professors Mark Myersen, MD and Lew Schon, MD.
Dr. Acevedo is the current director of the Foot & Ankle Center of Excellence with Southeast Orthopedic Specialists. He lectures internationally on an extensive array of topics on the foot and ankle, and has developed several arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures including the arthroscopic lateral ligament repair system. Dr. Acevedo has received several honors and awards, including the Roger H. Michael/ Johnson & Johnson Outstanding Fellow Research Award, nominee for the Florida Choice Awards of Excellence in Patient Care, AOFAS Research Grant and the Arthroscopy Association of North America Resident/ Fellow Research Award. Dr. Acevedo was recently honored with the Jacksonville’s Top Doctors Award and Florida Top Doctors Award for 2017 and 2018. He is also the President-Elect of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Minimally Invasive Surgery Society.

My mom and I had a very positive experience today with Dr Acevedo and staff. My mom recently fractured her lower tibia. She initially went to a less experienced surgeon who recommended a surgery that made my mom very nervous. She was adamant about having a second opinion and that’s when we found Dr Acevedo. I highly recommend Dr Acevedo and his team to friends and family. Dr Acevedo and staff were very kind and thorough and made us both feel confident in the care mom would be receiving going forward. I had foot surgery three months before with another surgeon in Jacksonville. Surgery went ok. However went back for my 3 month check up and was cleared. The same day went back to work and someone in 5 inch heels stepped in the middle of that foot. Separated everything. The original doctor said my foot could not be repaired. I went to Dr Acevedo and he said I can help you. After my surgery he put me in therapy . I was told by first Dr I would never run again. Dr Acevedo made sure I could run and wear heels. Excellent team. Starting with awesome staff at reception. I witnessed some fairly awful behaviour from another customer, the receptionist stayed kind and professional. The Radiology dept fantastic, quick, efficient and really nice. I then met Dr Acevedo's assistant and she was super smart & nice to talk to, she asked just enough questions to brief him, so no need to repeat everything and Dr Acevedo can get in and out quickly. He is clearly the best around. Finally, I was fitted w a brace by a really great guy, thank you! All of this done in less than 1 hour! It's a well organised structure with each dept taking ownership of their part of the business. You get the sense they enjoy working here. I had been seen by another doctor at another practice for arthritis flare up in my ankle. Other doctor gave me a shot in my ankle, but has not helped. My ankle kept getting worse. Dr Acevedo asked where in my ankle the shot was given. He said it was given in the wrong place. So Dr A gave me a shot in a different place in my ankle. Within 2 days my ankle was much better. He is efficient and knowledgeable. I was grateful to get some pain relief after months of pain.

Dr. Acevedo is professional, gentle, personable and easy to speak with. Following an X-ray, with my first appointment, he determined the protrusion on the top of my foot was a cyst and aspirated it. I having problems recovering from bilateral ankle fractures. He is the 3rd surgeon in 3 seperate hospital I've seen in. I wish he would have been the first because I have a feeling would dr.acevedon would of got it right the first go around. He seemed to understand when i explained the pain I'm experiencing. Dr. Acevedo did a superb job with my Total Ankle Joint Replacement surgery on 6/25/20. To me, this type of surgery was God-sent. I had been walking with bone-on-bone left ankle pain for several years, and now, "what a 'very blessed' difference!" The nerve, muscle & ligament pains are now the big challenge, that will decrease and heal in time (8 to10 months from surgery) as the ankle and foot continually conform to my new walking movements. As a physician and academic physician educator I have somewhat loftier expectations of the physicians caring for myself and my family than others. Dr. Acevedo met and exceeded these expectations with his knowledge, compassion, and technical skill. I had extreme damage to my ankle from boxed ankle replacement in Everett Washington. Dr. Azevedo has helped me to retain my leg rather than suffer amputation like Mayo Clinic recommended. In 1917, I was diagnosed with a bone spur in my heel. For almost a year, I endured everything imagineable to relieve my pain. I have a degenative peripheral nerve disease that is hereditary. It's technical name is 'Charcott-Marie-Tooth Disease', named after the three doctors that discovered it. It left me with very high arches and hammer toes. This deformity caused excruciating pain when trying to walk due to callouses. Dr Acevedo evaluated my condition. Dr. Acevedo graciously took my Worker's Compensation case from a doctor that dump my case once he realized that it was a Worker's Compensation case. This review is long overdue, my apologies to Dr Acevedo. He did 7 different procedures on my L foot. I had had polio as a kid, so struggled to do many things others could do. When I saw Dr Ace he said "you should have had this done 20 yrs ago". I said I was waiting for him to perfect his craft, he said "I was a bad a__ then too". My experience with Dr. Acevedo and all of his staff have been great. They put the patient at ease during visits and take time for the patient and patients needs. At this time I have more mobility in my right foot and no PAIN. This is the best it has been in three years. At this time I am able to walk and wear shoes and it feels great.
