Dr. Kevin Murphy is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine. During his collegiate career, Dr. Murphy played football for Army which ignited his passion to pursue a career in the sports medicine field.
Dr. Murphy is a retired Army Colonel and has used his medical training to serve his country in many ways, including as the orthopedic consultant to The White House and The Pentagon. He is also the former Chief of Orthopedics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Sports medicine is Dr. Murphy’s passion, which he uses to serve the Jacksonville community as the team physician for various Duval and St. John’s county high schools, as well as for the Jacksonville Icemen and the University of North Florida Athletics.
Outside of the office, Dr. Murphy is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan and also enjoys fishing.

I first encountered Dr Murphy in the mid-2000’s for a torn meniscus. At that time Dr Murphy had retired from orthopedics practice with the US Army and started private practice in Jacksonville. He successfully repaired my knee. From the very first visit I connected with Dr Murphy. He oozes confidence, and puts you at ease. It is evident he is very experienced in the areas he specializes. On the last day of summer vacation as we were preparing our RV for the last leg home, I tripped over the tow gear for our towed vehicle falling unencumbered to the ground striking my right shoulder. Results of a MRI confirmed that I had torn 4 tendons, severing one entirely, and left a large tear in my rotator cuff, just as Dr. Murphy had diagnosed following a brief examination. I underwent surgery during which Dr. Murphy completed all repairs and more. Dr. Murphy recently operated on my Division I football player's shoulder in December of 2020, using 7 anchors to re-attach his labrum. He is now going into his senior year and fourth year of football an an offensive tackle. The surgery was so successful that he is now pushing up 500 pounds on the bench press!! I came in with a fractured knee and torn ACL. Dr Murphy was able to perform the surgery and the physical therapy team were great. I also really like that this place was a “one stop shop” and every visit was at the same building. Today was my 3 month check up after surgery and no more physical therapy is required. I came to know of Dr. Murphy’s excellent work, and list of stellar credentials, through 5 years of working at a local hospital. When I tore my ACL 5 years ago at 40, as a lifetime runner and as a very active person otherwise, I did my research and knew he was the MD for me. He did an amazing job, and I am as good as new, and not many people can say that after an ACL replacement at that age. As an RN, I would never trust anyone else with a lower extremity sports injury. I injured my shoulder several weeks ago. I was referred to SE Orthopedics by longtime friends who live in Jacksonville. My wife and I drove up from our new home of Palm Coast. Dr. Murphy listened to my story that explained how I became injured. He then gave me a comprehensive physical examination. He determined where I was injured. I chose Dr. Murphy based on his background which was very impressive. He lived up to my expectations. Since I am a nurse I wanted the best. Another doctor suggested I get a knee arthroscopy. Dr. Murphy was very honest when he examined me, my x-rays and MRI. He told me a Knee Arthroscopy would last 3 months, then I would need a TKR. Since I am moving to western PA in a few months to be closer to my daughter, I decided to have the TKR in Pgh. I asked for a referral and he readily suggested an orthopedist he knew well. We decided that I receive steroid and lidocaine knee injections until my move in June and transfer my care to the Pgh doctor, who just happens to be the Steelers doc. He was honest, friendly and allowed me to participate in my care. His mother and I graduated from the same nursing school in Pgh, AGH. His staff was friendly and helpful. I feel very confident in choosing Dr. Murphy.
